Lessons in Leadership

I think one of the most common errors newly appointed leaders make is creating and failing to live up to unrealistically high expectations. While the leader thinks they are sending the message of high standards, they are actually undermining their credibility with hypocrisy.

It is better to have realistic expectations you can build upon rather than go for the whole enchilada and lose credibility for failing to keep your own expectations.

What are you talking about? Don't answer just yet.

Another common error is focusing only on the minimum necessary to survive and never catching the full vision of what is possible. I'll let you judge where I usually find myself.

The problem Dan is you can over-achieve with under-achieving effort. That's a good problem to have.

This has nothing to do with the post, but you guys came up in a conversation that Vance and I were having the other day. We miss you guys. I hope that our paths cross again sometime soon!
